Here’s what Conor has to say about his work with
the Developmental Assets . . .
“I’ve been involved with Developmental Assets for the past eight years, both at the school district level and the county level, and I’ve attended the national HC • HY conference eight times. I was introduced to the 40 Developmental Assets by my principal after he decided it was a framework we should implement.
One of the most rewarding aspects of working with the Developmental Assets is hearing and witnessing the profound impact that intentional and repetitive asset-building activities have upon youth. I can cite numerous examples of students who say that the 40 Developmental Assets helped change their life or perspective on something they value.
I have worked as a member of a Mobile Crisis Response Team, a youth counselor in a secure juvenile detention facility, and a chemical dependency counselor for teen and adult addicts. I have witnessed the damage and despair that can occur when positive youth development efforts have not been part of an individual or family’s life. In my current role as Assets Coordinator it’s refreshing to leverage the positive power and social capital of our community to try and strengthen those who need it most.”
